2023-24 SEASON:

MUSIC DIRECTOR SEARCH

River Brass is searching for a music director for the 2023-24 season.

Note: This is a volunteer position, though a small monetary stipend of appreciation is usually awarded at the conclusion of the season. The entire ensemble is unpaid and plays purely for the enjoyment of making music together. River Brass is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

An ideal candidate should have significant experience in conducting brass instruments, high energy and enthusiasm, strong leadership skills, and commitment to maintaining a high level of playing and always seeking continuous improvement within the ensemble by regularly participating in contest events. The music director collaborates directly with our Board of Directors to set up scheduling and select repertoire. The music director is a non-voting member of the Board.

Knowledge and understanding of brass band instrumentation and brass band repertoire is preferred, but not required. Resources can be available to assist a new director with learning the brass band-specific nuances and selecting appropriate literature.

ABOUT RIVER BRASS

The band is comprised of high-level amateur and professional musicians from the greater Evansville region. Our season typically consists of 4 concerts per year plus contest events (NABBA and/or Gateway Festival of Brass), in which we compete in 2nd Section. The band currently rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm at Epworth Community Church in Newburgh, IN through the duration of the school calendar year.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested candidates should submit their application with the form below. The board will arrange a rehearsal date (most likely during the summer offseason) to evaluate candidates. Specifics are to be determined and will depend on how many candidates apply.
